Resident Handbook, page 3.
Classification is the process that determines where you will live while you are incarcerated. All residents are classified utilizing the same objective criteria regardless of sex, race, color, religion, or national origin. The classification system separates males and females, gender non-conforming, residents requiring disciplinary detention for behavior issues, or administrative segregation, and those requiring or requesting protective custody. After all information is gathered and assessed, you will be assigned a custody level, which affects your housing, program and work participation. Generally, all residents are initially housed in PreClassification Housing, enabling staff to assess their behavior in a direct supervision setting.
