A schedule of recreation area times will be maintained by the Housing Unit Officer. This area has been provided for those residents who wish to participate in physical activities such as recreational or half-court basketball, handball, calisthenics, or jogging. Competitive, fullcourt basketball and dunking of basketballs are not permitted. Only one sport is allowed at a time. In order to participate in competitive sports, you must wear tennis shoes. Black slip-on shoes are allowed in the recreation area only for walking. Indigent residents can request tennis shoes from the Case Manager and they will be provided on a case-by-case, as needed basis. Residents are not allowed to stand behind the Officer's workstation while in the recreation area. In the event of an emergency in the recreation area, you must follow all directives and instructions given to you by staff. Residents on sick call or requesting medical attention will not be allowed to participate in active recreation until they have been cleared by the Corrections Medicine staff. Residents who have medical conditions that could be aggravated by physical exertion will not be allowed to participate in active recreation. The recreation areas will be available year round, weather permitting. The care of sports equipment is the responsibility of each resident. At the completion of each recreational period, all sports equipment will be returned to the proper location. Misuse or abuse of sports equipment will result in disciplinary action. You must be properly dressed at all times when participating in recreation. Proper dress includes: • Proper undergarments • Tennis shoes/socks • Uniform pants and T-shirt T-shirts and/or pants may not be removed during recreation. Headgear of any kind is forbidden. T-shirts and Khaki shirts are to be worn properly at all times. Eating or drinking will not be allowed in the recreation area. Tampering, modifying, or deliberate abuse of any recreation equipment will not be tolerated. Dunking basketballs will not be permitted. You are not permitted to climb any security wall or tamper with the security mesh in the recreation areas. If you fail to abide by the rules governing recreation activities, it may result in forfeiture of your privileges and/or disciplinary action.
