While you are under the care and control of the St. Louis County Department of Justice Services, you are entitled to certain rights, which are guaranteed by the United States Constitution and Missouri State Statutes. Your rights include the right: - To reasonable precautions to protect you from abuse, corporal punishment, personal injury, disease and harassment and personal property damage. - To be informed of facility rules and regulations. - To be treated fairly regardless of race, sex, age, national origin, disability and political or religious beliefs. - To adequate shelter, food, clothing, dental, mental and medical attention. - To freedom in personal grooming as long as your appearance does not conflict with requirements of safety, identification and hygiene. - To access courts as provided by law. - To access legal counsel from an attorney through interviews and/or correspondence. - To freedom of religious affiliation and voluntary religious worship. - To prompt, reasonable and reliable answers to questions. - To the grievance and appeal process. - To the news media by way of collect phone and/or the U.S.
